Not a rumour as such, but at least it's a distraction from the endless sack/don't sack Hughton discussions.

I have a question - if we're stuck with the 1 upfront formation - how about Snoddy as the supporting AM, behind RvW? In my opinion, he's a good passer capable of incisive passes and has the ability to skip past players despite a lack of pace. In these respects, I see his as a better option than Howson (passing not consistent) & Hoolahan (too lightweight) and even Fer (who looks great, but I think is more of a box-to-box man than a creator, so I see him in CM).

This then let's us play Redmond on the right and Pilks/Olsson on the left.

MancCanary

1.) Would rather see redmond in this position as he has pace to burn and olsson and snodgrass on wings also redmonds pass rate 93% completed and most successful dribbles saturady at moment he's our best player bargain and he still learning could be a walcott
canaryjim ;)

2.) I had a similair thought but with redmond in the centre make runs and pulling the defence apart. 4-1-4-1
RVW
Snods Redmond Fer Pilks
Johnson
Ollson Bassong Turnner Martin

3.) 31st october 2010 leeds won 4-1! johhny howson was deployed just behind the striker that day and he scored the perfect hatrick. left foot, right foot, header! He was one of the only ones having a pop at goal at hull. Spent all his youth career as striker, so that is instinct, in my opinion, he is best choice to sit behind striker. keep snoddy on wing.

4.) I'm not sure sure I agree entirely, Howson looked pretty good against hull and I believe he has a lot of potential, maybe its a case of trial and error test I few line ups out and see what works with the recent additions it will take a while to get things just right. But I do think we should play Redmond & Ollson consistently as they offer pace down the wings, and Redmond likes to tear apart defenses, that coupled with the "Wolf" and the creative ability of Fer should provide plenty of goal scoring opportunities for Wolf/Hooper. Tapping in on formations maybe two up front against weaker teams and one up front against the likes of Man u to maximize possession in midfield.

5.) Redmond in support - yeah I can see that working too. He looks like a nightmare to play against wherever he plays - and in my opinion the further upfield the better so that he doesn't have to worry about defending!

6.) And regarding Howson - Yes he is capable of it but as I said, just not consistent. I think he is useless as a CM - his strengths lie as you say, further upfield as an AM. But then I'm not sure whether he is great there, or just good (sometimes).

7.) Redmond would be best suited on the wing, we want pace down the wing not in the center, he needs space to run at defenders if he was in the center I think he would just get bullied out of possession.

8.) Just get rid of turner and we'll be fine

9.) Hooper behind RVW

10.) If we are to stick to 4 5 1 I do believe snoddy in behind the striker would work but also I have another thought rvw played in this position for sporting cp at times and was fairly successful so why not play hooper up top and rvw in behind? i'm sure its worth a try if there is one critism I have at the moment rvw is being to isolated up top I think if he played back slightly behind a cf who is slightly bulkier like hooper he would be more effective and able to dictate the game more. I think olsson should be playing at rb personally as garrido doesn't look to overlap enough i'm sure olsson and pilks/redmond partnership would be astonishing. Also I feel martin plays better than whittiker down the left he has a better understanding with snoddy. But whittiker I feel would be perfect in cb as he is strong in the air good at staying on his feet standing a man up and is cool on the ball him and bassong would work well together. So all in all i'd line up ruddy martin whittiker bassong olsson Johnson fer snoddy redmond rvw and hooper. I also feel fer would look more comfortable in a general cm role playing box to box he made better runs and made good passes when he sat a little deeper against hull.

Would be good. Bit of a goal machine wherever he's played.

To the 4th poster. I wasn't suggesting we have a tight defence - I was suggesting that Hughton does however focus most of his tactics on making the defence tight, which in my opinion is not playing to our strengths, and is resulting in poor attacking play.

Besides, one of those Bury goals was a deflection, and one was a 30 yrd screamer, and Bunn has been criticised for not saving 1 or 2 of them too - so you can't do anything about those types of goals. At least they weren't conceded due to defensive errors or poor play right?

Would be great. Not sure wages would be too high - he only moved from wigan last year so I doubt Chelsea would put him on 100k. Prob more like 50k, which I'm guessing would be maybe 5 - 10k more than our top earners this year. But yeah if Liverpool want him he's going there.

I'd rather score 6 and let in 3 again! If Hughton tries to tighten up that defence any more we'll strangle the attacking play even more. Hopefully we'll strike a balance between the two.
