Dwight Gayle is apparently a target for us. This is a player we have been connected with in the past. He has prem experience and knows where the back of the net is. Not getting enough games time right now. Great stats and young enough to get even better. Would be a great signing for us.

I would prefer Charlie Austin who Palace want before letting Gayle go

yes the rumour surfaced in the mirror, which is not a great source of accuracy based on previous rumours.

I wonder if there is any truth in it, simply because he is more a Hooper than a target man, and Alex Neil likes to play with one up front, perhaps because of the recent withdrawal to sign the Argie from Celta Vigo perhaps the mobokani deal is now back on ??

It's likely we will sign a CF but I suspect he will be similar size and style of Jerome.

Dwight Gayle scores a prem goal every 166 minutes of play. At a guess his hit rate is better than Austin. I agree that he isn't a classic lone striker however he can also play out wide on either flank or behind a centre forward like Hooper. But here's the thing, money ball only looks at the stats it ignores all the other stuff like how big the player is or if he has an eye in the middle of his head. It just looks at performance. This is a 20 goal a season prem striker if he gets to play every game based on his stats. He's small for a lone striker but if he scored 20 goals a season who would care?

I am not disputing your claim that he could be a 20 goal striker in premier league, it's just based on Alex Neil's liking a single target man, would he fit into his plans.

personally I would love to see him come to us, and perhaps Alex Neil see's using him in a role behind CF, watching him in front of goal suggests he has great ability in finishing, depending on your age you may not remember him but Gayle reminds me of Jimmy Greaves in his playing days, and there is probably no greater compliment than that.

If he does come in expect Hooper to depart, and presumably Lafferty if we can find him a club that will take him.

If we do sign this player we might want to keep Lafferty on account of his being a more classic big lad who can get his nut on the ball.

Do you not think it may be more likely that AN will try and bring RVW back into the fold? At least until Jan? He is clearly low on confidence and is now training back at Colony. It appears that everybody in the squad (with possible exception of Hooper)benefited from AN's positive, no nonsense approach last season, maybe we could see RVW come of age.

It might be so. Even when he wasn't scoring for us last time out this player ran the channels as relentlessly as a Duracell Bunny. With a work ethic like that he could be one for Alex Neil.
Neil's own public statements also give credence to the idea that he is available for selection.
This player unlike most strikers who can play one up top has some pace. The significance of this is that it deters opposition teams from running a high press on us. He can hold the ball up or run off the shoulder of the last man. That is why we paid £8.5 m for him.
